Climathon Wolkersdorf 2025

Incubating Collective Action in Public, Shared Spaces

Spring 2025, 1 day, multi-stakeholder co-creation process

_________

How do we initiate local climate action across different stakeholder groups?

Climate change is no longer abstract — it directly affects people’s everyday lives and the quality of shared spaces.

This Climathon brought together people living, studying, and working around the Platz der Generationen to co-create responses to increasing heat and changing conditions. Citizens, students, experts, and local initiatives came together to rethink how this public space can adapt and continue to serve as a place for connection.

Through facilitated dialogue, visions were translated into practical ideas: from shading and water systems to new ways of using space collectively.

Some of these ideas took root just a few months later — quite literally.
A collaboration between AHS Wolkersdorf, Pflanz!, Citizens Forests Wolkersdorf and the local care home (PBZ) led to the planting of a mini-forest in PBZ’s garden. A powerful step connecting generations while improving the local microclimate.

At the same time, new approaches to cooling the town’s central square are being explored.

What stays is a deep sense of inspiration for shared ownership. Because collective action starts when people come together and say: let’s try
